Black Locust Pocket Park
Black Locust Pocket Park began as a dream by residents of the nearby Monahassett Mills and the WRWC. It has become a well-loved spot by residents walking their dogs, lunchtime walkers taking the loop around the river, and anyone looking for a moment to be out in nature in the city in the valley district. Pocket Park stands as a pilot project showing how the WRWC plans to further engage the downtown river and open up more moments for people to enjoy the Woonasquatucket.
Donigian Park
Donigian Park is changing peoples minds about Olneyville and the Woony River Greenway. Where once were dumped 150 shopping carts and other trash and debris now stands a green oasis for play on Valley Street. Visit Donigian Park today, and you’ll see for yourself!
Riverside Park
Riverside Park sits as a jewel of a park along the Woony River Greenwayin Olneyville. Where once lay decay after the area declined in World War II, now sits one of the best hidden gems of the Providence Parks system. Visit Riverside Park today, and you’ll see what we mean!
Merino Park
Merino Park stands as a shining victory for change on the Woony River Greenway. What was once closed off and abandoned, now stands as one of the most well used parks in the Providence Parks system. Visit Merino Park today and any weekend during soccer season, and you’ll see for yourself!
Woonasquatucket Adventure Park
Thanks to a $500K community recreation grant from the Department of Environmental Management, the Lincoln Lace & Braid site in the Hartford neighborhood of Providence will be transformed from a field next to a bike path into a destination for cyclocross enthusiasts and other outdoor activities. Construction is in progress, so keep your eyes open for the next great park on the Woony in 2019–the Woony Adventure Park!
Buttonhole Golf Course
Buttonhole is a public, 9-hole golf course. It is a “non-profit initiative by The Golf Foundation of Rhode Island and dedicated to providing a short course and teaching center focused on kids and ‘golf, the greatest game.’” For more details, visit Buttonhole Golf Course online. There is a spur of the bike path that wraps around the north end of the golf course.
Manton Gateway & Skate Park
The Manton Gateway is a small green-space on Manton Avenue, providing easy neighborhood access to the bike path, a landscaped respite for RIPTA riders waiting for their next bus, and access to an active neighborhood skate park and street art zone.
Cricket Field
Cricket Field offers a gateway between Johnston and North Providence, promoting the appreciation of the natural environment and healthy living along the river. Restoration of this neighborhood oasis transformed the park from an abandoned lot to an idyllic respite which will one day connect to the Woonasquatucket River Greenway.
